Mentors
Mentorship
ECE Senior Design teaches students product design and project management by working on a year-long (mid August through Mid May) technical project in their senior undergraduate year. We often have projects that need mentors where the sponsor does not have the technical skills to support the students with the technical aspects of the project or we have projects where the sponsor is very technical and the students need help with project management and team building or we have great ideas for projects and insufficient bandwidth for us to fully support the students.
Are you looking for an outlet to work with young inquisitive minds to pass on your experience and talent to the next generation? Mentoring a project gives an opportunity to work with students without having to propose a project and without being in a position to judge the students or for the students to feel judged.
Join a project as a mentor for as little as 30mins every 2 weeks, pass on your experience, and receive the satisfaction of seeing the next generation of engineers grow and develop.
Benefits of mentoring:
- Work with bright, enthusiastic students with new ideas
- Opportunity to give back and share experiences with the next generation of engineers
- Opportunity to evaluate ECE students as prospective employees
- Interaction with the NC State community, other Senior Design sponsors, and brand recognition.
- Creates neural pathways through Intellectually stimulating activity (much better than video games)
Please fill out this form if you are interested in being a mentor. The next class starts in mid-August, or we can slot you into an existing project.
Fill out this mentor form, if you want to mentor a project team.
The Senior Design Program has an exemption for IP created for students during their project such that NC State University does not own the rights to generated IP. Students and sponsors may negotiate ownership of this IP as part of the Project Agreement.
