Project 21: VADER
(Vectorized Acoustic Deterrence of Elephants Research)
In sub-Saharan Africa, elephants frequently raid agricultural area, leading to the destruction of crops and generating human-elephant conflict. Our solution is a passive deterrence system which inhibits elephants from trespassing on farmland, reducing the number of casualties of humans and elephants. This system emits ultrasonic sound waves modulated with audible sound. Upon contacting a surface, it demodulates and leaves on the audible sound. The idea is that we can create a wall of sound that will deter elephants from chosen areas with sound.
