Project 02: Isolated USB

Click for a larger view

The goal of this project is to develop an isolation device that is capable of USB 3.0 speeds. In scientific research labs, industrial applications, and even medical facilities, hazardous voltages are dealt with on a regular basis. Many instruments use a USB connection which by default is not an isolated standard. This lack of isolation can lead to unwanted hardware malfunctions and may cause harmful shock. Our team is developing a device that acts as a safety bridge between high power systems and customer applications. Similar products on the market fail to meet desired data rates, fail to supply desired power, and/or fail to isolate sufficient voltages.
