Project 31: Seeing the Invisible – Thermoelectric Cloud Chamber

The purpose of this project is to develop a portable cloud chamber to view subatomic particles. This device is intended to inspire interest in the sciences in middle and high school students by enabling them to see the otherwise invisible phenomena of particle physics. With a cloud chamber one can visualize the tracks left by cosmic radiation, environmental radioactivity, or particles from radioactive samples like uranium or thorium ore. It will include a cloud chamber, along with a touch screen-based series of educational modules to explain the phenomena viewed in the chamber.
